Easy degrees? Spoken like someone who’s never taken a class beyond How To Speak Out of My Ass. Like it’s really hard to take anybody seriously who considers people going to school for anything other than “math” or “science” - by the way, jerkwad, there is no such thing as a “science” or a “math” degree. It’s all a little bit more specialized, some specializations that lead to careers with high paying jobs and others that don’t. Just like every degree in the history of ever!!!
You flatter yourself by thinking you’ve discovered something everybody fucking realizes, honey. The majority of people who go into majors such as history, literature, art - all of which you consider “easy”, all of which I’m more than certain you’d fail out of in a semester - do so because they are passionate about these fields, not because they go, “mmm, I wonder what I’ll study for 5 years of my life and spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on and then pay interest on for years! Oh I got it, I’ll do something EASY that is totally going to get a 100k job when I graduate!”. They study these topics because they want to, because it is something they consider worth studying and want to educate themselves on and one day support themselves practicing something they chose.
Inflation did not rise 1,120% in 30 years, so your argument is a stunning simplification of a complex financial system with you laying the blame at the feet of students, rather than a country that discovered how to hold its youth by the balls and benefit literally everyone except new students. A deregulation of the banking system where they can charge outrageous rates for student loans, as well as few oversights regarding the ability of university to increase their prices, and a severe cut of financial aid to students are part of the problem - students all over the world are becoming more and more educated, we just happen to live in a country where there’s nothing in place to keep educational costs from skyrocketing.
If you want to talk about something, we can talk about the fact that now more and more jobs require people to have a university degree, even for entry level jobs that 30 years ago didn’t call for, creating a demand for education that people must fill to make a living, not because everyone suddenly decided they wanted to go to school for shits and giggles. You can talk about how huge state funding cuts have forced state schools to increase costs to the detriment of students, with lawmakers giving 0 fucks about how this is affecting students and their future purchasing power, which obviously worsens the economy when you have a huge part of your consumers too busy paying off loans rather than, you know, consuming.
You know, we could have had a great discussion about this, trying to elucidate why these costs are rising. Instead you chose to ride in on your asshole horse, talking about things you have no clue about and declaring that this is allll the fault of those stupid kids who tried to better their lives with an education that you decided on an uniformed whim to be bullshit. The only thing that’s bullshit around here is this ask you just sent.
